Produced Water

Use Cases

Badwater Alchemy specializes in produced water treatment, providing efficient, cost-effective solutions for managing water from oil and gas operations. Unlike expensive desalination processes that require vast amounts of energy, BWA’s patented approach uses nano materials to remove contaminants like nitrates and heavy metals, recovering > 80 % of desalinated water at ¼ of the thermal desalination cost.

BWA’s modular design allows for easy deployment, reducing CapEx, and minimizing barriers to entry. Operating independently, or with existing RO efforts, the units can easily scale and work best with highly-concentrated brines that reverse osmosis can’t handle.

By reducing the volume of brine that needs to be reinjected into the ground, BWA’s approach potentially mitigates seismic activity, addressing SRA regulatory restrictions on produced water disposal, while simultaneously reducing economic costs associated with desalination. Additionally, the solid by-product produced through the process creates a market opportunity for waste treatment firms and mining companies that can extract value from its mineral-rich state.

How does it work?

BWA’s patented process leverages the physics of water to extract sodium, chloride and other contaminants using zero-valent iron.
